Post tension is the process of using tension to ensure that the reinforcing rods that you put into a slab of concrete have set and are as strong as possible. This construction technique is especially important in buildings with a concrete foundation or walls. It is also used on structure concrete slabs, such as those used on a golf course to create structures. It is used to ensure that the structure is strong enough deal with whatever it goes through over its lifetime. When you use a construction company to do post tension, try to look for one that is certified. There are two different organizations today that provide the vast majority of the post tension certifications that contractors can obtain.
#1 Ironworkers Union
The ironworkers union does more than represent its members; it also provides important education and training to its members as well as to non-member construction individuals who sign up and take their courses. They currently offer two different courses that one can undergo in order to get a certification that shows that one has the proper knowledge, skill and know-how to correctly perform the post tension process.
These two different courses include individual certifications to both bonded and un-bonded contractors. These courses include reading, course work and examines that one has to complete. These courses have to be taken every so many years in order to maintain the certification.
#2 Post Tension Institute
The Post Tension Institute or PTI, was created just for providing training and certification on the post tension process. There are two different types of certifications that one can obtain through PTI, the first is a manufacturing certification and the second is for individual contractors. For individual contractors there are two stages or levels that one can complete. Ideally, you want to hire someone who has completed both level one and two of PTI's courses.
Important Of Certification
Post tension is a complicated process that is needed to ensure that certain concrete structures are strong enough and will last as long as they were designed to last. When building a structure, you want to be sure that the contractor not only builds a building that looks great, but is strong and will stand the test of time. Although recommendations are great, they don't tell you about the quality of a contractor's work. Certifications for process like post tension and other specific processes are a way for great contractors to stand out and demonstrate to you that they actually have the training and knowledge to properly build your building, not just good recommendations.
